Alpine Skiing
The word 'ski' comes from Norwegian and means 'snowshoe'. In Sweden a ski has been found dating back to 2500 B.C., it was about 1.1 m long. Long-ski's dating back 4000 years also have been found in Norway. At the end of the 19th century it was Mathias Zdarsky from Austria who orderd the technics of the Alpine disciplines. In 1924 the Fédération Internationale de Ski was founded. Alpine Skiing has, since it's inception at the Winter Olympic Games, been one of the highlights of the Olympics.
