Cyclo-cross is a version of cycling participated in by roadies or specialists over the fall and winter months. The equipment is a heavy duty road bike equipped with cantilevered or other mountain bike style brakes, heavy duty rims and nobbed tires. The course is over grass and smooth dirt trails with obstacles set up requiring the rider to dismount, jump the barrier and then remount on the fly. Some riders will bunny hop the smaller barriers. Cyclo-cross was created by Daniel Gousseau (fra) around 1900. It was integrated in the first half of the 20th century in the Union Cycliste Internationale, which was founded in 1900.
