Figure Skating
Figure Skating is an ice skating sport where individuals, pairs or groups perform artistic programs on the ice, often to music. Figure Skating originiated in the 18th century in Great Britain, and the first international competitions were held at the end of the 19th century. The following disciplines can be found in competition: single competitions for men and women, pairs competition, ice dancing, and synchronized skating for groups. Required and free programs are judged on technical merit, required elements and presentation by a panel of judges. The International Skating Union was founded in 1892.
