Grass Skiing was invented in Germany in 1966 and from it's introduction to France in 1968 it spread throughout Europe. It was mainly a competitive sport, and only since a couple of years is finding its way to the general public for recreation. There are two types of grass ski: the wheeled and tracked models. Competitors use the tracked models, which are fast, precise and require grassy, well-prepared slopes. Grass Skiing is governed by the Fédération Internationale de Ski, which was founded in 1924.
