Track cycling is a form of bicycle racing held on specially-built banked tracks or velodromes. Bicycles used for track cycling are specially designed for the purpose. The events which are raced differ quite a lot in rules and competition format. The main events are the pursuit competitions (individual and team), where one begins on opposite sides of the track to clock the best time, and the sprint, a one-on-one match race on speed and just as important on tactics. The Union Cycliste Internationale was founded in 1900.
